I decided to post my letters to Tyler because as I was writing it, I thought, yep, this is pretty much what is going on in my life.
September 8, 2008We miss you already! Mom read me your letter from your first day at the MTC. I wish I could have been there to see the look on your face when Curtis told you that you leave in 3 weeks! That is a funny story! That's exciting that you get to go to the MTC in Guatemala. It will be awesome to get to the country sooner! Since no one ever wants to leave their country you may as well get a head start down there where you will get away from Cannon Center food forever! It's really not bad, it's just after you've already eaten it for a whole year at school, I would imagine you are ready for something else.
Things are going great here. Cooper and I just hang out all day while Spencer works. Cooper is so happy right now. He has started to squeal a little when he smiles if he gets really excited and I think a giggle is not too far off, but I'll let you know when it happens. We tried to web cam Mom and Dad today, but the bug was sleepy and not very interactive. Mom said, "You smiled big for Uncle Tyler so I know you can do it!" but she still only got a little half smile. Coop has also started to reach for things that are in front of him. We'll send you some pictures, but last night he fell asleep with his hand stuck through one of the toys. It was pretty cute.
I am making strawberry freezer jam tomorrow so that I don't have to go through the winter with just the store junk. I also bought some tomatoes at the farmer's market so I can make a batch of pizza sauce.
On Friday, Katie, her sister Kim, Coop, and I drove to Amish country, which really is not a lot different. I was expecting just really primitive stuff, but you can't even tell a difference from the regular homes to the Amish homes. And they are all mixed up together, not separated as I had imagined. There was a lot of really cool buggies riding along the road. It was interesting to me how well they just fit into the community. They dress differently, and do a lot of things differently, but I guess I was kinda expecting like when the Mormons went to Salt Lake and were all isolated. Anyway, I'll have to take you there when you come to visit me. There is a huge Farmer's Market with everything you can imagine down there too. That was awesome. I can't wait to take Spencer back so I can do a little more shopping. I have to figure out how I want to decorate and then I'm going to get a lot of it there because it is cheap! Mom will like that when she comes.
Well, Spencer is going to get home soon and Cooper is getting crabby, so I better go. We love you and know you will be the best missionary. Thank you for setting a good example for Cooper! Love you!
Love,
Alyssa (and Cooper because he was good and patient while I wrote this!)

Cooper never types me emails..Ty is so spoiled!! Hope the strawberry jam and pizza sauce went well (or go well), whatever the case may be! We are thoroughly enjoying the jam you left us! And if I ever learn how to make pizza dough (or buy some), we will enjoy that too! It sounds like you guys are doing well. We need to WebCam soon!! Love you!
