Funniest Missionary Ever

So, here is a funny story. My brother Tyler is in Guatemala serving a mission. He took his baby blanket with him (kinda a funny obsession that most of us Murphey's have) and somehow it got lost at the Guatemalan MTC. It is a gingham dog and calico cat blanket that my Grandma Cooper made a LONG time ago (Incidentally, it it the same kind of blanket that was my baby blanket before my parents burned it when I was six and I adopted the queen-sized quilt in use today) . He asked me to make him another one, but since Grandma Cooper is no longer around to ask sewing questions to, the issue of finding the pattern was a challenge. The only one I could find had 13 pieces and my Aunt Kaylene said Grandma's pattern only had 2 or 3. So, when I was home just barely my cousin Courtney came from Rexburg for Troy's graduation. She has the same baby blanket and luckily enough, still takes it everywhere with her (at least it's not a queen-sized quilt, Court!). I was able to trace the pattern from her blanket (impressive after 20 years of wear, huh?) and now have made some headway on his blanket. At the beginning of this week though I got the funniest letter in the mail from him and I just had to share it. This is definitely a keeper for his wedding. Notice the diagrams? I'll just retype a little of the letter, since his handwriting is barely legible on the actual letter.

Dear James Family,
Well thanks for your most recent handwritten letter. I really do enjoy them so thank you very much.
So, first order of business. My Blanky. I'm glad to hear reports that you have already begun. I'm super excited to be reunited sorta with my dear old blanky. Don't worry about the time thing too much. Just know that pretty much the world hangs in the balance with this blanky so it's not SUPER important. Kidding of course. Alyssa I have full confidence that you are amazing and that is why the task is perfect for you. Don't worry if the dogs and cats turn out ugly, they were hardly visible due to the years of good use when the CCM lost it. The important thing is that its comfy and pretty much that's all I can think of that is important, but also blue and relatively similar.
............
............
Then to the diagrams on the back.
Arrow: Some are white and some are a sweet baby blue. Once again a picture with the blanket would work better cuz I don't remember.
Below the arrow (and personally my favorite part!) The stuff in the middle was like paper towel thin if that can be bought and the material really comfy and thin too. Oh, what the heck. Anything blue, white, dogs, cats, with triangles will work.

Next picture:
Arrow: Don't forget the triangle things. They're important.
Arrow: Maybe you should just ask mom for a picture because#1 I can't remember exactly and #2 I can't draw.

There you have it. The funniest letter I have ever gotten. The best part is that his diagram looks nothing like the blanket and I'm pretty sure I remembered what his blanky looked like better than he did. Oh well, maybe that means he's concentrating on the Lord's work like he is supposed to be. He really is an awesome missionary, so we'll deal with this funny quirk. Dad thinks he'll be even nicer and better once he gets his blanky replaced since he's so distraught about it! Love you Tyler! Thanks for the laughs.

:-D Bah! I loved that letter :o) So funny! Your brother is awesome :o)

I understand about the baby blankets--I have mine that used to be my uncles that I loved to death (it is a little threadbear wisp of a blanket.

BUT! i wanted to let you know, my mom was just taught this amazingly easy way to do the triangle border thing on the blanket. It was so amazing, she was like "if only my mother had known how to do it this way..."
:o)

if your triangle way is really tricky OR time consuming, you should call me. we need to talk triangles ;o)

Love you guys! Hope you are feeling good (sadie comes to play in August, right?) *MUAH!*
